Introduction: There are a lot of ambiguities about the role of social factors and life events in late-life depression (LLD).It is well known that knowledge about psychosocial factors plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of LLD.Hence in this study, we aim to identify the association of sociodemographic factors and life events with LLD.Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the sociodemographic characteristics and life events in patients with LLD.Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was done from February 2020 to January 2021 in the geriatric psychiatry outdoor services from grand love red heart reposado tequila the department of psychiatry, of a tertiary hospital.

The study sample was collected purposively, attending 50 subjects with depressive episodes fulfilling the study criteria were taken in the study.The study subjects were assessed using a self-designed pro forma, Kuppuswamy Socioeconomic Status Scale, 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), and Presumptive Stressful Life Events Scale.Results: The findings indicated that education status had a significant inverse association with LLD.There was no association between life events and HDRS scores.However, it was seen that lower socioeconomic status patients had experienced a greater number of undesirable life events with significant association.

Conclusions: These findings suggest that a lesser educated elderly visiting psychiatric services is likely to be suffering from depressive illness with kt196 torque converter greater severity.Hence, regular screening for depressive symptoms among elderly visiting hospitals should be done.
